The SMSL SU-1 DSP combines an AKM AK4493S DAC with 32-band parametric equalization in a compact USB-powered enclosure. Building on the original SU-1, this DSP-equipped model adds detailed sound customization and EQ memory alongside high-resolution PCM and DSD decoding.
The DSP core supports 32-band parametric equalization, letting you tailor frequency response to your listening preferences and the characteristics of your connected audio system. Refine the balance for different headphones, speakers or listening environments rather than relying on a single fixed presentation.
EQ memory preserves your settings when the unit is powered off. Set up a preferred profile for evening listening, return to your desk the next day, and continue without rebuilding your adjustments.
The AKM AK4493S DAC works with an optimized circuit layout and acoustic tuning to support clean, detailed conversion. SMSL specifies distortion as low as 0.00013%. This is a manufacturer-provided figure; measurement conditions can affect results.
The XMOS XU-316 handles digital audio processing with support for PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512 decoding. These maximum supported formats depend on a compatible source, connection, playback software and configuration; they do not increase the resolution of the original recording.
Two high-precision femtosecond crystal oscillators with low phase noise provide the clock reference for digital conversion. This design is intended to minimize timing jitter and support stable signal processing.
